... And Forum!
Well, I had put the word out that I was looking for someone to resurect the Bouldering at Stoney Point web site because I've been way too busy to work on it. It was a little sad, so instead of just making it disappear, I felt that if I could find someone I trusted, that had a little web knowledge and liked to boulder at Stoney, I would let them take over the grunt work of keeping it alive. I have found that person and his name is Kris Johnson.
I hope everyone enjoys bringing the site back to life under Kris' guidance. I'll still be around because I've put way too much work into the site through the years to walk away completely.

|
|
Hey,
I've been climbing at Stoney for three years now, and was wondering what was up with the Santa Susana State Park area across the way. The one with the rock faces surrounded by green grass and what not. Is it legal to climb there? Worth it? I know hiking is good, but would like to know if it's worth taking my gear up there? PLEASE help me out. Thanks! |

Directly across the way where there is an obvious big square block with a lead in the middle of it and several topropes surrounding it. However, that land is private as a few of us discovered the hard way, so no climbing allowed.
If you're talking about the place next to the townhomes, that's called either "The Garden" or "Martian Landing" depending on which generation of climbers you're talking to. It's an actual park that folks have been visiting to climb for a couple decades now, with bolts and rivets on most of the blocks and natural gear when easier. There are even a handful of leads including a pseudo-two pitch 5.8 gig on the big obvious mushroom rock, but all these years later I wouldn't trust the bolts on that rock not to mention a scary rap over a bee hive last I checked a few years back! The bouldering on the other hand is really quite fun when the grass is cut back including one of the best fingercrack problems around. Go wander a bit, and get a feel for what Stoney Point must have been like before all the grafitti and such came in. But do respect the homeowners and keep it a bit quiet. |

Thanks Kuan. We're still working on the new site and I've fixed some of the internal links to the new forums, but I still need to spend some more time on that. All of the individual large image pages have yet to be fixed, but we'll get to them all eventually. _________________ Brooks Ayola
